Coming from a scientific background, a way to promote the interplay between art and technology would be to have a mandatory coursework project on the design of an outreach activity. This could be done in the first or second year of undergraduate to avoid an overlap with the thesis work. In this way, students from scientific subjects are encouraged to use their creativity to present a technologic application of their subject to the public. All projects could then be presented in an open exhibition so that the artists could directly engage with the local community; hence understanding their perspective and concerns on the application of their subject of study.
