A contemporary education system should teach young people how to actively shape their lives and learning in a digitalized world in a sustainable way. Progressive digitalization in turn creates new opportunities to create, test and implement suitable forms of teaching for this purpose. The OeAD (Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalization), the BMBWF (Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research) and Ars Electronica aim to promote precisely this change in education and have therefore jointly launched the 2021 Education Award Class! Learning. We Are Digital. The Education Award is aimed at teachers and students who see the transformation to digitalized teaching as a challenge for the development of new ideas and projects. The goal is to promote the creative, innovative and sustainable use of digital tools in the classroom. In addition, the competition should also motivate critical questioning: Which structures can and should be usefully expanded with digital tools? Which elements of school lessons need direct (analog) social interaction? Digital learning not only means mastering digital tools, but also finding and implementing as many synergies and complementary elements as possible between analog and digital teaching.
The jury selected ten projects from the more than 140 submitted: The main prize is endowed with 10,000 euros, with two awards endowed with 5,000 euros and seven recognitions made.
The winning projects will be presented in an exhibition at the Ars Electronica Festival and in an award ceremony at the symposium Perspectives on Political Education.
