With the musical visualization of Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps, media artist Klaus Obermaier and the Ars Electronica Futurelab brought Igor Stravinsky’s revolutionary ballet from 1913 into the 21st century. On September 10, 2006, Le Sacre du Printemps was the opening performance of the Brucknerfest Linz and Klangwolke Linz, performed at the Brucknerhaus and broadcast live to the Donaupark. With the help of a virtual, three-dimensional space coupled to musical impulses, an additional dimension was added to the performance, creating a concert experience that did justice to the innovative musical character of the piece. Using state-of-the-art technology, the interplay of real, virtual and musical spaces supported the numerous sonic and rhythmic innovations of the musical piece. The audience thus awaited a groundbreaking production whose quality and intensity approached the power and impact of the controversial premiere.
