Harmony
Team Members: Clara Roth, Robbie Ierubino, Peter Sauleda, Maria Kallionpää, Kathi Schulz

Harmony fosters an inclusive atmosphere among strangers, reframing the concepts around co-creation and collaboration. Co-composing can be intimidating at times, as there is pressure to perform.

Project Home
Team Members: Esma Bosnjakovic, Max Haarich, Barbora Horská, Nicole Schanzmeier

Team Members: Asma Aiad, Parisa Ayati, Rebecca Merlic, Ines Mahmoud, Mateja Rot

VirtualPolitik
Neo Christopher Chung

The world is at a critical junction where polarizing forces are working hard to keep us divided and troubled. We are witnessing the rise of exclusionary laws and policies, fueled by the dark side of the Internet and algorithms. Across Europe and beyond, the challenges of civil unrest and human rights are negatively affecting marginalized populations and creating intractable divisions. How can we use public platforms and new media to create inclusive outlooks and to create new political spheres?

Tree of/and Life
Center for Urban History of East-Central Europe, Lviv, Ukraine (UA)

The film tells the story of a craftsman's creativity and his connection to a tree that extracts an invisible form from a material substance. The act of creating by a human being is subject to the power of the substance that governs the carver independently determining the result. The subjectivity of nature is also manifested in the film through chemical damage - images and memory are absorbed and disappear behind the veil.

The team of curators from the Center will visit Orest Bachmaha at his house on the outskirts of Lviv to conduct an interview. In the 1970s and 1980s this person was part of a huge army of amateurs, shaped in the former USSR. But he belonged to a special circle of amateurs, such as media amateurs, who produced radios and recording machines, and worked on the margin between amateur film and video art.

Transculturalism: The Space in Between
Amelia Jones, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Behnaz Farahi

In this panel discussion Amelia Jones (USC); Krzysztof Wodiczko (Harvard GSD), Behnaz Farahi (CSULB) are discussing "Transculturalism: The Space in Between". As utopian fantasies of "global" interconnectedness fade on relation to a global pandemic and burgeoning nationalisms, it is important to develop strategies to foster a sense of inclusion and overcome a culture of exclusion. This panel discussion addresses what role might art and design play to maintain a sense of transculturalism and how they might allow us to see things differently.

Exhibition
Krzystof Wodiczko, Behnaz Farahi, Memo Akten, Lauren Lee McCarthy (US)

This exhibition examines how different strategies of the ‘gaze’ could be used to undermine various forms of power structure and promote different forms of resistance. It does so by displaying either exhibits illustrating the gaze and voices of marginalized groups, or projects exploring how literal masks might hide or reveal identities. The idea is to use art and technology in combination with critical thinking to convey a powerful political message.
