STARTS at the Ars Electronica Festival 2022
STARTS is a platform that aims to link technology and artistic practice more closely. It is implemented by European policy to promote innovations that also benefit the art world. It supports collaboration between artists, scientists, engineers and researchers to develop more creative, inclusive and sustainable technologies, and focuses on people and projects that help address the social, environmental and economic challenges with which the European continent is confronted.

It uses electricity as a performer and understands the physicality of infrastructure as a colorful material. Exploring the sites and displacement of energy, electrical or mechanical. Making it visible and audible. Colorful segments of cables, children´s toys and discarded plugs.

The NeuroRight Arcades
Roel Heremans and his team are designing a series of five interactive installations to make each NeuroRight tangible for participants. They want participants to explore unasked questions about the future of our NeuroRights in a world where BCIs are ubiquitous.

LULLABY FOR MARIUPOL by Opera Aperta
On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine. Mariupol, which since 2014 has been a symbol of Ukrainian resistance, has become a brutal example of tragedy and humanitarian catastrophe. On February 22, back then in peaceful Kyiv, Ukrainian composers Roman Grygoriv and Illia Razumeiko composed a piece for microtonal bandura, called "Mariupol". A new version of “Lullaby for Mariupol”, created especially for the Circus of Knowledge and the ars electronica festival 2022 will include rare footage of Mariupol mosaics from 6th and 7th centuries, now mostly destroyed by Russian forces during the siege of the city in March 2022. The performance is dedicated to all victims of Russian aggression.

Deep Water

In her animated film Deep Water and her erotic sketches, the award-winning Ukrainian artist Anna Dudko stages the sensual underwater fantasy of a mermaid who is craving human erotic love from deep within her soul. This full-bodied mermaid does not hide her woman’s desires and takes pleasure in observing the human world along a drain and touching people with water as if with her body. In the exhibition, the film will be presented along with erotic sketches and film backgrounds created by Yana “ja-shi” Shypova and Olga Havrylova.

Time, Space, Me, Us.

CIFO-Ars Electronica Awards 2022
More than 160 artists were nominated, and five of them were honored with the first CIFO-Ars Electronica Awards: Dora Bartilotti, the Electrobiota Collective, Thessia Machado, Amor Muñoz and Ana Elena Tejera will each receive up to $30,000 for the development and implementation of their submitted concepts.
