The Lost Lair of the Surviving Species

Experience how the Ars Electronica Futurelab virtually brings extinct animals back to life, in the interactive VR world of Lost Lair in the new Deep Space 8K.

A dark cave in Deep Space 8K becomes the setting for an adventurous expedition: equipped with a virtual flashlight and your own smartphone, you can set out on the tracks of survival. A giant mammoth is said to have already been discovered in the virtual reality of The Lost Lair of the Surviving Species. As a member of a research team, you as a visitor become part of the concept in this multi-user environment: In the high-resolution interactive 3D projection, you can interact with other participants as well as the projection with the help of the new optical tracking system.

Gradually, more extinct animals will be brought back to life in the VR Development Lab at Ars Electronica. Researchers from the Ars Electronica Futurelab will continue to explore the limits and possibilities of virtual reproduction of extinct species in the technically re-equipped Deep Space 8K. The upgraded Deep Space 8K and Deep Virtual, a system developed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab for virtual video productions in Deep Space 8K, make The Lost Lair of the Surviving Species an exciting experiential and educational project. The immersive adventure with novel technology is designed to let visitors follow the technological progress in the production of VR experience worlds here in real time.
