In connection with the core theme of our festival this year, one of our aims is to overcome distance in digital spaces and to support the community of all Online Festival attendees! For that reason, several interactive events will happen during the festival from 8th to 12th of September and we would like to invite you to participate. Some of them have limited active participation and registration is required, but all events can be explored via the platform of this year’s festival, Swapcard. Below we give you a brief overview of the different formats and their contents.
Journey Chat: „How to Strand Astronauts on the Moon?” with Halsey Burgund and Francesca Panetta
Following the Journey “How to strand Astronouts on the Moon?”, Halsey Burgundy and Francesca Panetta will expand on their work, perspectives, and visions with chat participants. One of the central questions of their Journey is how digital narratives that incorporate content created using AI models into their stories can play with our perceptions of what is real and what is fake, revealing the potentials and pitfalls of technology.
Journey Chat: „The Zizi Show” with Jake Elwes and Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley
Enter the world of The Zizi Show (2020), a Deepfake drag cabaret, an online virtual stage featuring a groundbreaking new show with a difference. It features acts constructed using deepfake technology that learn how to do drag by watching a group of human performers.
Futurelab Anniversary Day
The Ars Electronica Futurelab turns 25 – a good reason to look back to the future. With Alchemists of the Future, the Ars Electronica Festival presents a hybrid space that connects people to contribute to “A New Digital Deal”.
Meet the S+T+ARTS community
The Science+Technology+Arts = STARTS Initiative is a program of the European Commission that encourages synergies between the arts and technology that support the innovation industry and society. STARTS promotes the inclusion of artists in research and innovation activities throughout Europe. The STARTS community as well as interested artists and experts are warmly welcome to get together in this Networking Event.
Social Media Wall
This year we will again have a Social Media Wall, which is an integral part of our Community Challenges and combines local, viral and physical. Share your experiences and moving moments during the festival with others, no matter where you are!
Memo Futurum invites you to imagine your personal future 25 years from now and to then share this vision with others in the form of a voice memo. At the end of 2021, the memos are transferred to vinyl records and will be stored away for 25 years. Memo Futurum is intended to become a ritual, repeated, and expanded every 25 years. Starting September 7 through the end of the year, you can record and share your personal voice memo via the ars.electronica.art/memofuturum website.
“Dear Miro” – Action Board
Sustainable Internet for all – is that possible? And what could that mean? In a Collective Whiteboard we would like to offer all participants of the online festival community access to feel addressed and to enter a joint exchange about how digital (living) spaces should be designed in the close future.
Excel Spread Sheet Party
Collaborative Futures, a collective of academics and creatives, are interested in the development of hybrid virtual platforms for transdisciplinary collaboration that puts at its centre concerns around care, consent, equity, and inclusion. We explore how hybrid virtual platforms can support the reorganisation of spaces and disrupt existing typologies and forms of working, focusing on an ecology of openness, radical inclusion, cooperation, understanding and empowerment.
Enter the Rave Space on Friday Night
Garden Berlin is presenting a hybrid rave night in Berlins first virtual 3D club. Get in touch with friends and strangers from all over the world as an avatar.
Bal Masqué: EMAP Party at Ars Electronica, organized by IMPAKT
The Bal Masqué is a virtual club night with online dance battles, a digital masked ball and a multitude of individual VJ-set. You are all invited to wear your most crazy digital masks on Saturday night and party with an international community.
The 24 hours rave is meant as a connecting planetary community event, which can suggest a physical connection to all participants through auditory perception. Driven by the rhythm, touched by the sound, we want to dance and feel with you through all time zones, transcending social, political, and spatial boundaries for one night and one day.
Galactic Wine Sharing Party
Pop by Hong Kong for a virtual drink with the Galactic media art community? 50% of what Festivals are about, is meeting friends and discovering new people, and this is what has been lost in the circumstances of the pandemic. But the technologically mediated routes, which we are forced to stick to, funnel us toward a more extensive intermixing of people who are usually distanced geographically, and culturally.
MIRO Board Garden Araucania + Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA) Virtual Encounters: Viewing, Transforming, Creating Landscapes Through Art
Through the partners of the Green Art Lab Alliance, videos, images, words and forms from Europe, Asia and Latin America have been connected on a whiteboard to explore questions about the management of natural habitats and sustainability. Visitors can actively participate in this virtual exercise and accept the invitation to travel virtually through this experimental mapping of connections and exchanges.
