Mold yourself! / Schwarzes Rauschen (Black Noise)

Mold yourself! – Fungi have existed for billions of years, setting the stage for humanity by supporting, carrying and converting life. This project is a visual representation of how mycelium in fungi connect everything and react to impulses, such as our sensitive neuron system as it works. The colorful scenes show us the beauty of fungi in an abstract way. Visitors can experience how to interact with the artwork in space as a digital mold system. Be a part of a collective consciousness, be a fungus, be happy!

Schwarzes Rauschen (Black Noise) - The project is an immersive, interactive installation, consisting of 12 different, dynamic worlds, which change their structures with the movement of the group of people currently being tracked. Every world contains a certain amount of noise, randomness, decreasing with every level. Starting at a level of pure chaos, with every further world the environment becomes less noisy and more structured and harmonious, leading to total silence in the end.

Biographies

Austrian artist, born 1992, birth name Daniel Haas, artist name STURMHERTA, who lives and works in Linz and Kirchschlag bei Linz / Austria, studies Time-based and Interactive Media Arts at the University of Arts Linz. SURMHERTA originated out of the modular-synth community in 2017 as a synthesizer-performance project. As Haas has found interest in other related areas, like programming and visualization, his works have gained more variety. They now span pure sound performances and audio-visual compositions to immersive installations using big projections or physical objects. A passion for tweaking and pushing machines to their weirdest corners, beyond their usual functions, discovering unknown fields of sonic pleasure, is the origin of STURMHERTA’s motivation. Haas works with a wide variety of hardware and software, such as modular synthesizers, open circuits, contact microphones, Max/MSP and PureData. He also uses field recordings, samples from sound carriers or radios, background noise and noise from feedback loops. With these tools he creates shifted rhythms, dark, strange atmospheres and organic textures which he visualizes with audio-reactive graphics or hyper-realistic animations.

Botond Kelemen and Balint Budai are hungarian artists currently based in Linz, Austria. They are focusing on interactive audiovisual performances. Their cooperation is based on finding new paths in media art using interactive tools and represents visual and sonic abstraction since 2018. Their concepts are following organic and virtual phenomenons such as natural reactions and digital reflections.
