Keynote
Jakob Kapeller will summarize and review current investment projections for the EU and discuss the prospects for achieving carbon neutrality in the light of these projections. He concludes that we still lack significant investment capacity to successfully manage the transition to a carbon-neutral economy, which could be partly addressed by a wealth tax. He will outline how such a pan-European wealth tax could be designed, what the expected revenues of such a tax would be, and what the distributional implications of such a tax would be.

Jakob Kapeller is a philosopher who became an economist by accident. He is Professor of Socio-Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and head of the Institute for Comprehensive Analysis of the Economy (ICAE) at Johannes Kepler University Linz. He has published in a wide variety of disciplinary contexts and has received several academic awards for his work. His current research focuses on pluralism in economics, socio-ecological transformation, and distributional issues.
