The BCI-Solastalgia was created by Ars Electronica Solutions as a part of their „Sustainability Thinking Strategy”. The aim of this strategy is to raise the awareness of one’s own thinking about sustainability and thus to evoke a new, creative approach of finding solutions.
The participants brain activity will be recorded in real time via a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI), this technology captures subconscious neuronal reaction while participants view briefly presented images of our environment.
Erika Mondria (AT)
Erika Mondria is a certified mental trainer and biometric art-based researcher. She develops physically transformative brain (organ) machine interaction methods based on neuroscience, art, and cultural studies. As a researcher her focus is on the reciprocity of mental and physical processes, biometric data, and their manifestations in artistic scenarios. She studied Cultural Studies, Philosophy at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (AT) Transmedia-Spatial Art, University of Art and Design Linz (AT), Sculpture Art in Marseille, Aix-Marseille Université (F), Fine Art, London Institute, Camberwell University of Arts and Central St. Martins University of Arts London (GB), PhD research at Interface Culture, University Linz (AT) She is a member of the International BCI Society.
Martin Spanka (AT)
Martin Spanka has been responsible for the AEC’s Neurobionics department since 2022, and was previously the contact person for the former AEC Brain Lab. He is co-responsible for the development and implementation of various workshop and tour formats on the topic of the „human brain“. He has participated in and conducted several neuro-studies (e. g. Fraunhofer ITWM). Additionally training courses at g.tec medical engineering GmbH (neurotechnology) and at the Linz Centre for Mindfulness (MBSR).
