As part of the plant becomes a machine becomes a plant project of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Waag Society, V2_the lab for unstable media and Zone2Source, Christiaan Zwanikken started an experiment to grow a variety of red-leaved basil plants under hyper-gravitational conditions. Hypergravity is able to stimulate plants at a cellular level and changes the physiology in interesting ways.

OCEANS IN TRANSFORMATION

We explore how Oceans in Transformation brings together a multiplicity of conceptualizations of the ocean. The ocean is a sensorium: it records the transformations of the Earth in its complex dynamics, and it inscribes back into the forms of life its own cycles. This workshop explores new ways to connect the multiple ways of knowing and studying the ocean as it is entering a new phase of its history—the Anthropocene.

STUDIOTOPIA Journeys

Within the initiative STUDIOTOPIA, seven European cultural institutions have invited artists to host scientists in their studios, and it is the hope that these collaborations build upon this shared knowledge. The journeys featured in this year’s festival offer a glimpse of how these encounters can shape a new understanding the role and responsibilities of humanity on our shared planet.

The Woodiana Oracle: Diviners Wanted! is a diviner recruitment event and a futuring exercise in the form of a fortune telling workshop; a live online divination event where everybody gets a chance to become a mussel path analyst and interpret her behaviour! No previous experience is needed, just a passion for river ecologies, drawing and making up fantastic stories! Prepare some papers and pens and dive into the Danube in search of the mussel trails!
